Final report of the committee constituted for studying various aspects of R&M and LE of coal based power plants

The R&M of old thermal units are cheaper and cost effective solution in comparison with new addition of thermal capacity for meeting the surging demand in the country along with the challenges posed by integration of high level of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. It shall help to optimize the operation of thermal units and bridge the gap in shortage of installed capacity in India. However, new challenges/areas are emerging such as use of biomass pellets in TPPs, flexible operation of thermal units, environmental norms compliance, viable business models for R&M works, standard bidding guidelines, technical surprises and delayed completion of R&M activities etc. For tackling above mentioned issues, a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Member (Thermal) with members from various organizations and TPRM Division, CEA. A comprehensive report has been prepared with the contribution of committee members from various organizations, special invitees which are at the forefront for steering this new challenge. The committee report would guide and help all the stakeholders eg. central, state & private utilities to plan and complete R & M activities in a much systematic and efficient way in thermal generating units.
