The evolution of energy efficiency policy to support clean energy transitions

Governments, businesses and citizens around the globe are facing the challenge of climate change and how to accelerate the global clean energy transition to reach net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest. Governments and citizens need to act now, with increased ambition, to adopt policies and programmes aimed at the delivery of clean energy transitions. Central to reducing energy-related emissions are the move away from fossil fuel use to electrified systems; significant and sustained improvements in energy efficiency; and an increase in renewable electricity generation capacity. This report outlines the ways in which energy efficiency policies can evolve to deliver the energy system that is needed for rapid change now and for the energy system of the future.
