However, Abhaya Sahoo has not been included in this team as he is not a resident of any of the panchayats that would be affected by the Posco project.
BHUBANESWAR: The Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) on Thursday announced it would commission the first phase of its six million tonne per annum (MTPA) steel plant in Angul within two months. "By March we will achieve two MTPA production capacity in the first phase," company chairman Naveen Jindal said after meeting senior state government functionaries at the secretariat here. About 30,000 people were working round the clock to meet the deadline, he informed, adding the facility would achieve full capacity of six MTPA within the next three years.

The woes of investors in highway projects don't seem to end. The new guidelines issued by the environment ministry, allowing work on non-forest land while clearance for projects involving diversion of forest land is pending, are cumbersome and would not facilitate investments, developers feel. According to official sources, the developers have written to the environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan, roads minister CP Joshi, NHAI Chairman RP Singh and the department of economic affairs in finance ministry, stating that the condition that in order to begin work in non-forest land, the user agency must explicitly provide for a “technically feasible alternative alignment” for segments that fall in forest land is too difficult to be complied with.
PARADIP: The last-phase survey for crisis-ridden Posco project will get underway from Tuesday. This was decided at a meeting among district administration, United Action Committee (UAC), a purportedly pro-Posco outfit, and villagers likely to be affected by the project yesterday. It was also decided to finalise the compensation package after the survey taking into confidence Posco authorities.

The Bihar Government on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding for a 1,320-MW coal-based thermal power project at Chausa in Buxar district. The State expects to procure 85 per cent of the total power generated or 1,054 MW from two units of 660 MW each. The MoU for the joint venture was signed by Bihar State Power Holding Company Ltd (BSPHCL), Bihar Power Infrastructure Company Pvt. Ltd (BPIC) and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN) – a joint venture company of the Union and Himachal Pradesh governments.

A delegation from the company met the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and requested him to expedite the handing over of the land for the speedy execution of the 1,000 MW power project at Visakhapatnam.

They also warned the Biju Janata Dal government against using police force on innocent people to acquire land for different companies.
CPI leader and MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai was arrested today while trying to enter the proposed steel plant site of Posco-India ahead of a rally to protest the project, police said. "Tarai was arrested as a preventive measure to avoid any law and order problem as a large number of anti-Posco activists have gathered in the area," SP Jagatsinghpur Devdutta Singh said.
JSW Energy has received forest clearance for its planned 240 MW hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh, making way for the company to start construction of the project. The project, being set up at an estimated cost of about . 2,000 crore, was awarded to the company in 2007 but has not taken off due to lack of clearances. This would be the maiden hydropower venture of the Sajjan Jindal-led company which has an operational capacity of 2,600 MW and aims to scale up capacity to 11,770 MW.

Villagers protesting against the proposed steel plant of Tatas in Bastar brutally assaulted an administrative offier when he went to an affected village to start project work.
