Education bill in 11th 5-year Plan

The Centre on Friday gave the go-ahead to the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan scheme, aimed at universalisation of access to and improvement of quality of education at secondary stage. The Union Cabinet on Friday allocated Rs 20,120 crores for the scheme in the 11th Five-Year Plan.

Manipur NGO says no to projects that displace people

The three-day workshop on ‘Development and Displacement’ organised by the Citizens Concern Dam and Development (CCDD) has resolved to say ‘No’ to development works that were displacing people from their original habitats. They have also demanded the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA, 1958.

Despite Delhi government’s tall claims of promoting the social status of the girl child through its flagship programme, Ladli, lack of awareness and lengthy registration procedure have limited its benefits.

“We have heard about the scheme, but we don’t know whom we should approach for it and whether we are eligible for it or not,” said Asha, a maid working in the Malviya Nagar area.
