SRA committee does not have any legal authority: Experts

Mumbai: Will the high court-appointed committee to clear the backlog of Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) cases be of any help?
Apparently not, as the panel has not been given legal powers, say experts. They also point out that the committee is no different from the one set up last year which could dispose of only 42 cases.

Hooda announces funds for panchayat land

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Sunday that a sum of Rs.10,000 per acre yearly would be given to those panchayats whose land would be acquired under the Mahatma Gandhi Grameen Basti Yojna for carving out 100-100 square yard plots to be given to the members belonging to Schedule Castes, Backward Class-A category and families living below the poverty line in the State.

A hunger-free Kozhikode

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kozhikode is all set to become the first hunger-free city in the country. For, the Social Welfare Department has embarked on a unique mission to provide free meals to the needy.

The Social Security Mission project, constituted by the Government for the care of the poor, aged, children, women and cancer patients, will be launched on January 26.

Ensure subsidised ration to poor

Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Paras Jain held formal talks with senior departmental officers here today about various ongoing schemes.
