NEW DELHI: Pakistan President Asif Zardari said on Saturday he would work on a no-first-use (NFU) policy of nuclear weapons and assured India that his government would not interfere in Jammu and Kashmir.

This is the first time that Pakistan has advocated the policy of no-first use of nuclear weapons.

Meeting on Chemical Weapons Convention in Colombo

The Regional Summit of the National Authorities and Parliamentarians in Asia on the National Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention will be held in Sri Lanka this year with the participation of 30 countries in the region.
The authorities are due to meet at the Colombo Hilton for the summit on August 25 and 26, Government sources said.

I am of the considered view that the government of India (GOI) did not have to make public the agreed text of the India-specific IAEA agreement earlier than it did. While it is true that this issue has become a lightning rod for the breakdown between the UPA and the left parties, the larger international and domestic political context must be taken note of.
