Expert group says no to NHPC mega dam project

Guwahati:An Expert Group comprising experts from Indian Institute of Technology (Guwahati), Gauhati University and Dibrugarh has given its opinion against construction of the mega dam by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) at Gerukamukh in Dhemaji district along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary considering the sensitive geological and seismological character of the area.

Assam districts hit by second wave of floods

LAKHIMPUR, May 16: Assam’s flood-prone districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji were today hit by the second flood of the season following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas, official sources said. The water level of Brahmaputra’s tributaries Ranganadi and Singora was rising alarmingly with fresh areas being inundated affecting 30 villages under Lakhimpur and Naoboicha Revenue Circles.
