The districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji and parts of Arunachal Pradesh have been totally cut off from the rest of the country following washing away of a portion of National Highway-52 by flood waters and it will take some time to restore road communication even as the flood situation in Lakhimpur district remained grave with as many as 11 breaches in the embankments. Talking to The Assam Tribune, Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner, Manish Thakur said that though the weather condition improved today, the situation remained grave today.
JAGIROAD - The Jagiroad branch of Assam Science Society observed the World Environment Day on June 5 in the premises of Jagiroad College with a daylong programme, which began with the plantation of saplings in the college campus. Though manufacturing sector of the country recorded a slow down, buoyancy in agricultural sector has lifted India's economic growth to 9.0 per sent in 2007-08 from the earlier projection of 8.7 per cent, making it the third consecutive year of the domestic economy growing above 9.0 per cent level. The Central Statistical Organisation in its revised estimate of national income said that the upward revision of GDP growth rate is mainly on account of revision made in the estimated production of agricultural crops by the Department of Agriculture and Co-operation.
About 708 remote villages and hamlets have been electrified in the north-eastern States so far under the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, with about 1,167 projects under implementation in villages/hamlets, according to a PIB press release.

Normal life was crippled in Assam during the 12-hour bandh called by the AGP, BJP and supported by Left parties in protest against the unprecedented price rise of essential commodities, including the soaring cost of petroleum products. No major incidents were reported during the period. The bandh that started at five in the morning resulted in near-nil attendance in important government offices, while business and educational institutions remained closed, and the major highways saw a sharp fall in vehicular traffic.
