Constraints and potentials of diversified agricultural development in Eastern India

A sustained economic growth, rising per capita income and growing urbanization are apparently causing a shift in the consumption patterns in favor of high-value food commodities like fruits, vegetables, dairy, poultry, meat and fish products from staple food such as rice, wheat and coarse cereals. Such a shift in consumption patterns in favor
of high-value food commodities depicts an on-going process of agricultural diversification. This study aims to analyze the trends and patterns of agricultural diversification and related development in the eastern states of India comprising the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal.
