Tribunals Reforms (Rationalisation and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2021

Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur on Feb 13, introduced the bill in Lok Sabha to abolish some tribunals where public at large is not litigant. The bill proposes to 'provide a mechanism for filing an appeal directly to the commercial court or the High Court, as the case may be', instead of the tribunals. The bill seeks significant amendments to ten statutes by doing away with the appellate authorities that includes --- the Intellectual Property Appellate Board and Plant Varieties Protection Appellate Tribunal -- under various Acts and conferring the right to hear appeals on High Courts.
