Aizawl: The Planning Commission, which earlier lauded Mizoram’s New Land Use Policy (NLUP) to support cultivators to shift to permanent farming has sanctioned Rs 370 crore for the programme, it was announced here on Monday. The Mizoram government launched the Rs 2,873 crore NLUP in 2010 to solve food scarcity by moving away from shifting cultivation to permanent farming, a statement said.
The row over the Kerala Land Use Bill is uncalled as the government has not yet decided on piloting amendments to the Bill, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. Presenting a review of the Saptadhara scheme announced in November last, Mr. Chandy told reporters here on Sunday that the recommendations of two commission reports, one submitted in 2003 and the V.R. Krishna Iyer committee recommendations submitted during the tenure of the previous LDF government, were passed on to the departments concerned for eliciting their views as a routine procedure. The reports had not come in for a scrutiny so far. Along with the land use Bill, four others were also forwarded to various departments, he said.
