Tool for assessment of carbon footprint of urban transport

Cities now have the option of ensuring that their comprehensive plans are low on carbon emissions. Shakti’s support has helped develop a tool that can measure green house gas emission of various transport initiatives. The tool was developed by Emergent Ventures, India which works on sustainable solutions for various aspects of the environment. The purpose was to help the Ministry of Urban Development and the city level urban bodies assess the various transport systems like BRT / Mono Rail / BRT etc. in Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) on the parameter of emissions intensity. Assessment of carbon footprint has not been included as one of the parameters in the guide for preparing Comprehensive Mobility Plans which is part of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission's (JNNURM) programme to strengthen urban transport system.
