NEW DELHI: Instead of initiating a fresh tendering process, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to extend its contract with eight voluntary organisations providing mid-day meal in its schools by another two years after reviewing their performance after one year of awarding the contract in April 2008.

In several schools and anganwadis the tendency of providing sub-standard food or serving less food has become common. Government brings these schemes and programmes with good intentions but its implementation is not done properly. The basic aim of the mid-day meal plan is to create interest among the children towards school and study. On the one hand the children get food for one time in a day whereas in this pretext they come to study in schools.

Hyderabad Dec. 5: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has said that the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme in the state was lacking in coordination and overall perspective. The latest CAG report tabled in the Assembly said that this has led to delays in assessing the requirements of food grains and differences in the quantity of cooked meals provided to children.
