Farmers' number comes down in Chhattisgarh

The final census report was released Thursday evening that underlined that there was a big reduction in the number of farmers in Chhattisgarh that was once known as "rice bowl" of the country. The number had come down by nearly 450,000 during a decade time from 2001 to 2011.

Government constitutes committee to determine land use pattern
GUWAHATI: To determine land use pattern in Assam, a three–member Cabinet sub committee headed by State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Prithibi Majhi has been constituted by the State government. Sources said that the Cabinet sub committee has been constituted to recommend a land use perspective and also to suggest a roadmap for preparation of a comprehensive inventory of the government land in a time bound manner.

Allotment of 10,760 acres to Brahmani Industries scrapped
The Andhra Pradesh Government finally decided to take back 10,760 acres of its land allotted to Brahmani Industries Limited (BIL) of former Karnataka Tourism Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, now in jail in connection with Obulapuram Mining Company case. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy went through all the files and papers pertaining to the matter and approved cancellation of the allotment as proposed by Industries & Commerce Department, before leaving for a visit of Adilabad district.

As the government is trying to finalise a shale gas policy, it wants to build in environmental safeguards into the overall framework. The ministry of petroleum and natural gas is engaged in extensive consultations with the environment ministry to ensure that once the actual work starts there are no glitches. According to an official close to the development, the draft of shale gas policy has been sent for inter-ministerial consultation—to the ministry of finance, environment, law and planning commission.
